A group active in the 1830s–1840s that campaigned for electoral reform.
Key facts
- Six demands: every man to vote, annual elections, equal electoral regions, secret ballots, any man able to stand as MP, MPs to be paid
- Seen as a failure at the time, but most demands were achieved by 1918
- Women over 30 got the vote in 1918; men & women over 21 in 1928; voting age lowered to 18 in 1969
